a new thriller from Vivian Schilling!

Blurb from the publisher:
Of epic scope, "Quietus" is the haunting story of a young woman brought back from the brink of death to find the world around her irrevocably altered. On a stormy winter night, a small plane bound for Boston goes down in the treacherous White Mountains. Through a haze of morphine, Kylie O’Rourke awakens in the hospital to confused and harrowing memories of the crash.

Kylie returns to her life in Boston, but the aftermath of the tragedy proves unbearable. As her husband slips away from her into his own world of survivor’s guilt and deceit, Kylie is seized by a growing paranoia that someone is stalking her every move. Then a sudden and freakish tragedy sends Kylie's world toppling. While those around her fear she is losing her mind, she finds herself caught up in a chain of events she cannot escape.

With spellbinding intrigue, "Quietus" takes the reader to the brink of reason, to the edge where spiritual and physical meet, building with frenetic momentum to it’s shocking and haunting climax.

Vivian Schilling is an award-winning novelist and filmmaker. She is author of the acclaimed novel Second Prey, as well as a screenwriter, producer, and director of independent films.

Praise for "Quietus:"

“A great gothic raven perched somewhere between Anne Rice and Iris Murdoch. It’s a spooky, sweeping book of death, dreams and psychosexual intrigue. Schilling herself–in her deft melding of mythic animus and modern anxiety–seems like the bastard daughter of Carl Jung and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley...I loved it.”
 —Time Out New York

“An intelligent and gothic masterpiece…Using extensive research obtained from ancient religious apocrypha, Schilling has crafted stunning and plausible insights that question what we have come to know as ‘death.’ The result is an epic and chilling new thriller that will please readers on both a visceral and intellectual level. ("Quietus") is true Literary Suspense spoken from the deepest part of the author’s own experience … A haunting and stunning foray.” —West Coast Literary Review

“Schilling has crafted a complex and creepy thriller. An Anne Rice novel without the goth trappings.” —Publisher’s Weekly

“Gripping … an intriguing novel that explores the very nature and meaning of death. Schilling spent decades researching near-death experiences. She uses this research to create fascinating mythology about death, of which she makes excellent use in the novel … The initial reading of  "Quietus" can be disturbing, but the characters, particularly Kylie, will return to haunt readers at unusual times. This is the type of book that demands a second reading…always a good sign.” —Foreword Reviews

My Review:
This book is completely absorbing.  I found myself thinking about it - the characters and the storyline and what was going to happen next while I was not reading, waiting to read more when I had the chance.  Kylie is such a fascinating main character and very well-developed throughout the novel.  I immediately liked her and her journey following this accident is spell-bounding to be on with her.
Vivian Schilling is a great writer and amazing storyteller as evidenced through this book.  The story flowed so nicely and had me eagerly turning the pages and on  the edge of my seat as bits and pieces were unraveled and the suspense grew.  I highly recommend this for those whom enjoy psychological thrillers.
