"Sacred Holidays"

Book Blurb from the publisher:
Sacred Holidays is part book and part resource: meant to help you avoid what has tripped you up in the past and give you insights, tips, and tools to make your holidays less chaotic and more about loving Jesus and others. Don’t let your holidays be marked by regret, whimsy whirlwinds, or survival mindset. Let’s celebrate every holiday together purposefully and worshipfully – loving Jesus and others well in every moment.

My Review:
First of all, what a great book and resource!  Seriously, I wish "Sacred Holidays" was out years ago before I had children and when I was making holidays my own, our own way of celebrating as a family.  Holidays can become super chaotic, which is a given as it is time that is off of a normal routine, typically involving many people and people who you do not often interact with and see.  Therefore, this can make everyone stressed, but also take the focus off the true meaning, the true focus of a given holiday.  Starting out this, the first section in this book is an overview and an encouragement and reminder to the reader to take baby steps with this process and to look at the whole picture as far as how holidays are celebrated, the positive aspects and any regrets and negative aspects.  This is to be read now.  Then the second section focuses on the actual holidays and these chapters are to be read 30-60 days before each holiday.  Each chapter focuses on a specific holiday with information about the holiday and also common practices and suggestions for ways to celebrate that will hopefully result in less chaos and more Jesus focused, more purpose-driven.  Then there is ample space for the reader to reflect upon current practices and traditions and changes that can be made after reading this.  Then the third section consists of specific chapters that are to be read as needed.  For example, there is a chapter on grief; as we all know losing a loved one impacts holidays, our attitudes toward celebrating and the memories that are associated with it and not having that person present.
This is such a great book and one that I am looking forward to working through before each of the holidays and really making the holidays more meaningful and less chaotic, tweaking little things here and there.  I highly recommend this book!

"In Too Deep"

Image result for in too deep lynn h. blackburn

"In Too Deep" is the second book in Lynn H. Blackburn's Dive Team Investigations series and it is a fast-paced intense read that will keep you turning the pages!  Adam is called into work during a family dinner much to the dismay of his aunt and grandmother, and this is the start of uncovering things that have been taking place and trying to discover the truth before more people are murdered, including himself.  Adam is shocked by the body that is found in the submerged car and the computer along with the information on it that is discovered.  Samantha and Adam have been friends for years and Adam knows that she is the one to best help him with this case as she is a whiz with computers.  However, neither can believe what is showing up. Unfortunately, human trafficking is all too real in today's society and it so often feels like you do not know who you can trust and find yourself questioning how well you really know someone.  Adam and Samantha face all of this.
I really enjoyed this book and seeing some familiar characters from book 1.  The interactions between the characters and the vibe between the co-workers is so realistic and just really helps with the making the characters come to life in the book.  This book is a nice mix of romance and suspense and the characters are ones you cannot help but like and root for along the way.

"Wait For Me"

Image result for wait for me susan may warrenOh my goodness, what a conclusion to this series!  "Wait For Me" is the 6th and last book in the Montana Rescue series and while I have been waiting for this to come out so that I could finally have answers and know how everything turned out, I am going to miss this rescue team so much!  (And now I cannot wait to see what Susan May Warren writes next!)
Each book has focused on a different member of the rescue team; however there are story lines that have been carried through, mainly one.  That is the disappearance of Esme Shaw, Ian's niece, and now that she has returned home it seems as if justice will be served and things can settle down; however that is not the case when the vehicle that Esme and Jess are riding in is hit resulting in a horrible accident and them being injured and lost.  Pete is still in love with Jess and only returned home for the wedding thinking that Jess would not be there and now that he has seen her again and then knowing that she is lost he is forced to deal with his feelings and he is afraid time is running out.
This series has been so good, it has suspense, romance, heartbreak and healing, and characters who became so real in this pages that it as if there really is this Peak Rescue team out there in Montana giving selflessly to help others.  I have enjoyed all the main characters as well as the minor ones who have become a part of the series through their connections with the main characters.  The scandals, the murders, the heart-pounding rescues, the natural disasters, all of these things the characters are faced with and work through, and they learn they cannot do it alone, not without the help of the rest of the team, but more importantly they cannot with the help from God, and their faith and trust in Him.  Such a great series and if you have not read any of them, go and start with book #1, believe me you will not want to stop until you reach the very last page of book #6 "Wait For Me."

Guest Post from Dana

Writing this book was bittersweet for me. It was lovely to finally be able to tell youngest Thorn brother Keegan’s story, but I sure am sorry to say goodbye to this series! It was such fun to write about these four kinsmen and the family bonds that held them together through all manner of murder and mayhem! Here at Mentink Manor, we have recently sent a bear cub away to college for the first time. It feels like I have lost a limb now that my Boo Boo is gone! Fortunately, we will enjoy having her home for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Though it won’t be a cozy country Christmas like it is for Keegan (we live in a city of 80,000 here in Northern, CA) we will be thrilled to have all our family home to celebrate together (Mama Bear, Papa Bear, two cubs, a naughty terrier, and a senior citizen box turtle!) I hope you enjoy this last installment in the Gold Country Cowboy series. I am sending along our best wishes for a blessed holiday season, from our Mentink household to yours!

My Review:
Dana Mentink has such a talent for creating stories that immediately draw the reader into them!  Dana's latest book, "Lost Christmas Memories," is no different as as soon as I started reading I was completely engrossed in the story and did not want to stop reading!  This book is the last (the 4th) in her Golden Country Cowboys series and it is a wonderful mix of romance and suspense.  Keegan meets up with Tracy whom is terrified as she has witnessed a murder and she is struggling with amnesia and cannot remember all of the details, but enough to know that she herself is now in danger.  Keegan has his own things he's struggling with, but he knows that Tracy is telling the truth and he must do all he can to help her.
Although this is the last book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone, although I highly recommend you read the whole series as each one focuses on one of the Thorn brothers, Keegan being the youngest and also because they are just all that good!  This is a fast-paced read as the suspense and danger is lurking just around each corner and Keegan and Tracy have limited time, and you will not want to stop reading!  This is a sweet, and suspenseful Christmas story that is also full of love and healing.

A Christmas Journal keepsake!

http://www.booklookbloggers.com/art/_240_360_Book.2695.cover.jpg

Book Description from the publisher:

Capture five years of your favorite Christmas memories in this beautiful, keepsake guided journal. Building on the highly popular "one line a day" journal concept, On This Christmas: A Five-Year Journal of Your Favorite Traditions, Memories, and Gifts is an interactive keepsake that allows you to record your holiday celebrations over the course of five years.
Every joyful Christmas season you think, I'll never forget this! But the memories slip quietly away over time. Now you can save them and treasure them all in one place. This Christmas is a five-year guided journal with thought-provoking prompts such as "The gift I'm most excited to share," "We are choosing to slow down the holiday by ______," "A special blessing we enjoyed," and "Our favorite tradition this year." With Scripture and inspirational thoughts, This Christmas will help you preserve precious times with friends and family as you celebrate the Christmas season.

My Review:
This is such a beautiful book that will become a keepsake for sure!  This is a hardcover edition, a nice-sized, small journal  that is easy to hold on to, tuck in a purse and take with you or have sitting on a side table.  There is a separate page for each day from December 1st - December 25th, for 5 years.  I love that there is a page for each date for each of the five years, instead of having all five years be on one page.  Therefore, there is ample space to write and answer the question or respond to the journal prompt.  There are also beautiful illustrations, quotes and verses included throughout as well.  The questions range from what is going to be included in your Christmas menu this year to how can you show your gratitude for Christ's love.  I am excited to begin writing in this in a few short weeks and begin this journal specific to the Christmas season.

My review:
Oh my goodness, what a great read! Be ready for a fast-paced ride filled with twists and tunrs!
I was very intrigued right away by the blurb about the story. Grayson sounds like a fascinating man,
he is a psychologist, and creates adventure games for team-building events for businesses.
Sounds like such a fun time! And it is until Grayson becomes the prime suspect for murder after
his ex-wife dies in the midst of a team-building activity when the company she works for
is participating in a team-building game. I absolutely loved the entire idea behind this book
and loved how it all played out. I have a degree in psychology and I love board games, and so this
book was perfect for me to read, although the games were much more intense and "real-life" than
what I typically play! The past between Grayson and his ex-wife plays such a huge role and although they
had their issues, her death is hard on Grayson and then added to the fact that he is suspected of causing
her death, the stress increases. God's love shines through in this book as well and I love how He is tied
in with the story.

Guest post from Robin

Behind the Scenes: Robin Caroll Shares Her Inspiration for Writing Stratagem Dear Reader, Thank you for journeying to New Orleans in a web of deceit and confusion with me. Sharing a place that has such connection for me was a pure joy. South Louisiana offers such a laid-back attitude that I often miss “home.” I hope you’ll enjoy sampling a taste of the flavor of Louisiana. Years ago I watched the movie The Game with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn and was enthralled. There’s just something grabbing about messing with a person’s mind and life by using their own feelings and instincts against them. When this story of Stratagem first began forming, I wanted to use all that intrigue to mess up the game master’s life. The end result is quite the ride! As the characters came alive to me, I found the theme of forgiveness and acceptance coming out in the story. Some of the emotions within this story are very personal to me, and I’m honored I was able to share them with you. It is my wish that you may be touched by Grayson’s faith journey as well. Until next time. . . -Robin

Winter’s Treasure

Paris Kauffman believes she is about to embark on her family-tradition birthday treasure hunt, but for the first time ever, her daed is sending her to various businesses and homes in the community. Little does Paris expect that when she enters the bakery to collect her gift, the bus will drop off none other than her old crush, Aquila Stutzman, the man she’d done everything except cartwheels and handstands to get his attention. And failed. Of course, Quil doesn’t remember her. Quil was offered employment working on his grandparents’ new tree farm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Since he’s recovering from a broken heart when his longtime girlfriend Priscilla up and married his cousin, a move Quil never saw coming, he decides to take the job. This will give him time to separate himself from the hurt and maybe, eventually, move on. Paris and Quil have sparks from the beginning, especially since his appearance causes a vicious rivalry between friends. But who can resist when a chance meeting beginning with donuts and coffee ends with a missing person, puppies, a skunk, and a sleigh ride—not to mention a trip the Amish young people plan to Niagara Falls. Could it also involve falling in love?

Mistletoe and Miracles

Daniel Graber has spent years caring for his aging parents. Now Daed’s in rehab with a broken hip and a bad case of irritability. He snaps at the workers and complains about doing physical therapy, so Daniel is grateful for the new aide, Fern Chupp, who uses her sweetness and charm to convince Daed to cooperate. Turns out, Daed isn’t the only one she charms. As a widow, Fern is grateful for her new job at Fairview Rehab Center, even though it meant relocating to Ephrata, Pennsylvania, with her nine-year-old daughter, Lyddie. But Lyddie is grieving the recent death of her grandfather and dislikes leaving her Ohio home. Lyddie’s shyness also makes it difficult to make friends or recite school lessons. When her class goes to the rehab center to interview patients, Lyddie’s too scared to do her assignment, so she runs away. During the hunt for her missing daughter, independent Fern learns to accept and appreciate Daniel’s help and support. By the time they discover Lyddie, she’s made a very unusual friend, and Fern and Daniel have developed a . Can four lonely heart create special bonds to make it a Christmas to remember? My Review:
These two novellas are such sweet, cute stories that are perfect for the holiday season!  Each of the stories is filled with hope and love.  The first novella is Paris' story which begins with her on a treasure hunt, a tradition that her parents do each year with her on her birthday.  Paris is hoping that this year the hunt will end with a surprise party as she has never had one of those before. However, hunt turns into quite the adventure when her best friend Sarah joins her and then Quil arrives in town to help out his grandparents and he is along for the journey as well as the girls are going to give him a ride home.  Quil and Paris have a history, yet Sarah has immediately set her sights on him, adding another element to the story.
The second novella tells the story of Fern and Daniel; however Lyddie whom is Fern's daughter plays a major role and is a character I loved in the story.  Fern and Daniel meet when Fern begins working at the rehab center where Daniel's father is staying. I loved how the relationship grew and developed between Fern and Daniel, but really all of the characters.  Each of these novellas will tug at your heart and leave you smiling!

Below is a recipe that is included in this book, sounds absolutely delicious!

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

About the Book

Chosen People

Book: Chosen People
Author: Robert Whitlow
Genre: Legal Drama
Release Date: November 6, 2018
Publisher: HarperCollins

Bestselling author Robert Whitlow dives deep into the legal ramifications of a tragic event half a world away and how it affects two lawyers in Atlanta from vastly different backgrounds. When Hana Abboud walked into the conference room, she was unprepared for the images of a horrific terrorist attack near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. But after watching a courageous mother sacrifice her life to save her four-year-old daughter, Hana knew she needed to help attorney Jakob Brodsky represent the family’s pursuit of justice against those who perpetrate acts of violent jihad. As an Arab Israeli lawyer trained at Hebrew University, Hana is uniquely qualified to step into the gap. But they need a third partner, an investigator on the ground to help them unravel the snake pit of connections between the terrorists and an organization or company that can be sued in the American courts. Hana returns home to Israel and meets with investigator Hamid Hasan who quickly becomes more than a crucial part of the litigation team. As Jakob and Hana investigate the case in the US, he is stalked on the streets of Atlanta by affiliates of a terrorist organization. Their pursuit of truth can only be resolved where it began: the streets of Jerusalem. But who can they trust? How deep does deceit go? Can two lawyers and a shadowy investigator impact the kind of violence and terror that has become common in our broken world?

Inside the Story

Chosen People—a title that reflects both the Biblical designation for the Jewish nation as well as converted Christians—opens during a terrorist attack near the Western Wall in Jerusalem. A courageous mother sacrifices her life to save her young daughter, leaving behind a grieving husband and a motherless child. Whitlow’s many trips to Israel and his in-depth research into the culture and laws of the Holy City are evident throughout the story. Furthermore, his experience as a lawyer gives him keen insight into the mind of his main character Hanna Abboud, an Arab Christian Israeli lawyer working in Atlanta. “This book provides a unique perspective to this region and its peoples through the eyes of an Arab Christian who believes that the faithfulness of God and truths of the Bible are unshakable realities,” says Whitlow. “This viewpoint is rarely expressed, yet it is one that needs and deserves to be heard so that it can become part of our framework for understanding this vital part of the world and the people who live there.”

My Review:
Robert Whitlow has written another page-turner as "Chosen People" will draw you into the story immediately and keep you hooked until the very end!  I was on a John Grisham kick years ago and Robert's style of writing and stories have a similar feel to them, perfect for those whom enjoy a fast-paced, intense read that has a legal spin to it; however the Bible and God's truths are interwoven into the story as well.  Terrorism is such a huge threat in today's world and therefore, "Chosen People," is a story that feels so real as it could be something that you see on the news.  When Hana sees the situation that she has been asked to help out with, there is no way that she can say no, and this speaks so much to her character, her heart, her passion and I immediately liked her.  As Hana and Jakob struggle with this case and knowing who can be trusted they are forced to trust God and seek guidance.  This book has so much to it, the action and real-life situations, the legal aspect of terrorism and how everyone is impacted by these acts and the need for God's help and guidance in everyday life.  I highly recommend this latest book from Robert as it will not disappoint!

Guest Post from Patrick

Why I wrote the book: Inspired by Hebrews 13:2, “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it,” this story will stir your soul like never before, guaranteed!

My Review:
Patrick Higgins has written a story that we all need to hear, us as Christians, not being a "Christian" as we perceive this role to be, but living as Jesus would live during His time on Earth, among and with the people.  This book begins with a man whom no one has seen before being escorted from the front of the church sanctuary to the back, a man whom people are eyeing and thinking to themselves what he is there for, perhaps money for drugs, a warm place if he's homeless, judging thoughts.  In the same sanctuary, sits Lydia who is thankful her husband is attending church with the family today, but also discouraged and embarrassed that he is on his cell phone and seemingly engaged from the family and life in general and has been for so many months.  However, this family is hurting, is struggling, but to all appearances, things may be fine.
This story is just filled with so many things that we all can relate to and things that we all need to hear and remember.  God is the only judge, but yet we are so quick to judge those around us, how they are living their lives.  Also, there are so many attacks coming from us at all directions to keep us from living our life how God has intended so that we are feeling defeated, lost and seeking comfort from other areas in our lives.  Patrick presents this story in a way that is completely relatable and nonthreatening at the same time with characters whom are easy to love.  I finished this book feeling hopeful and inspired and reminded about being Jesus and showing love to others, not following a mold that the world has built as far as how church and Christians should be.  This is a wonderful story and message for this time of year, but one to be remembered throughout the year.
