Book Review - "Catch A Star"

"Catch a Star will not only give you a look into Tamika's life but will also inspire you to strive to be all you can be in life as well."--Tony Dungy, former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts

Teamwork. Family. Perseverance. Faith. Community. Excellence.

Growing up, Tamika Catchings suffered from profound hearing loss, bullying, and the anguish of her parents' divorce. But she wasn't about to allow those challenges to determine her destiny. Through perseverance and God's grace, Tamika became one of the top female basketball players of all time.

Catch a Star is her story of overcoming. Of leading the Indiana Fever to its first championship. Of being named one of the WNBA's top fifteen players in history. Of earning three Olympic gold medals. And of founding the Catch the Stars Foundation to help young people achieve their dreams.

Her story will inspire you to face your doubts and fears and reach for your own dream, no matter what challenges come your way.

"Fierce, competitive, tough, funny, and loyal--these adjectives sum up my good friend Tamika Catchings. It's been a pleasure to witness her growth, not only as a basketball player and champion but as a beautiful woman with unbreakable character and strength."--Reggie Miller, NBA Hall of Famer for the Indiana Pacers and TNT NBA analyst

"Tamika Catchings is a role model for young women and for anyone who faces what seems like an insurmountable challenge."--Adam Silver, commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA)
My Review:
"Catch A Star: shining through adversity to become a champion," written by Tamika Catchings with Ken Petersen is Tamika's life story that will inspire each and every person who picks up this book and reads it.  Tamika demonstrates that with hard work, an attitude of knowing that you can achieve your goals and having faith, you can accomplish and be who you want to be.  This book is a quick read as it written in such a style that it is easy to get drawn into Tamika's life and it just has such a personal feel to it.  I love Tamika's heart and how she wants to encourage others and help them to be able to come over the obstacles in their lives, like the ones she faced of battling low self-esteem, and being bullied.  What stood out to me as well is Tamika's vision and promoting of goal-setting and the mission of helping others "catch their dreams one star at a time."
