Ted Dekker is back with 2 novels, books 1 and 2 in his Beyond the Circle series and they will not disappoint! "The 49th Mystic" kicks it off by introducing the reader to the main character Rachelle Matthews, a blind girl, who dreams in color and lives off the grid. However, she is a prophesied one, the one who must find and discover 5 ancient seals. However, she needs to do this before she is destroyed. The future of two worlds will be determined by if she is successful or not. Ted writes these novels so well as he really hooked me on the story immediately in the first book and then left me hanging at the end and I was happy that I could immediately read book 2, "Rise of the Mystics," as the quest was only partially completed by Rachelle. This is such a nice mix of fantasy and real life, two worlds intermingling, and a battle between evil and good and a story of overcoming fear and discovering one's self. Both of these books are thought-provoking, yet at the same time an escape from reality into a different world and life. The suspense is riveting and the vivid descriptions really bring the scenes to life. I highly recommend this for fans of reading suspense and fantasy.
