Andy Andrews begins "The Heart Mender" with a personal account, he finds "hidden treasure" in his backyard. Upon his discoveries, Andy searches the Internet for clues as to what exactly he has found and then his wife's wisdom leads him to talk with the "old people" in his town for additional information. From all of this comes the story of Helen and Josef.
Set in a time period of great fear and suspicion all around, this story will transport you back to World War II. Helen has lost her own husband due to war and while out walking on the beach late one night she sees a body of a solider. Disgusted by the sight of his enemy uniform Helen must make a difficult decision. Helen's heart leads her to do a noble thing and rescue this man, leading her on a path of second changes, forgiveness and new love.
This story will remind each of us to look within a person and not look merely on the outside and to also open our hearts and minds to second chances.
Thomas Nelson Publishers was very generous and provided me with an extra copy to give away on my blog. If you would like to receive this book leave me a comment telling me why you would like this book. I will randomly pick someone a week from today - next Thursday 5/27!
I like the time period of WWII and I like how the author has the main character talk to the "old people" in town for answers. There is so much we can learn from the older generation and many people just ignore them instead of learning about history from listening to their real life stories. I look forward to reading this book!
ReplyDeleteI always love a historical fiction and even better is Christian historical fiction. I would really love the chance to read it.
