The I Believe Bunny - Book Review

I recently received The I Believe Bunny book by Tish Rabe from Thomas Nelson.  This is the first in a series.  It is an adorable, hardcover children's book.  Written in rhyme this is a book that is easy to read and catches one's attention.  Philippians 4:13 "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength" is the key verse for the premise of this book.  I Believe Bunny is feeling down and hoping the rain will soon stop (sounds familiar for right now! :) ) and he hears a little voice of a mouse caught in the river needing help.  Bunny prays for help and his prayer is answered when his friends rush over to help.  This cute story illustrates for young children that God will help you in time of need and that when you have faith in God nothing is impossible for you, no matter your size.  With beautiful illustrations to go along with the text, children will love to look at the pictures and hear and/or read the rhyming words.  

Book Review - "God's Little Princess Devotional Bible"

“God’s Little Princess Devotional Bible” is perfect for your little girl! It is a nice size for them to hold onto and read. It is filled with bright colors, and different fonts that catch their attention, not to mention the “jeweled” front cover. With “Bible” in the title, do not misunderstand and think this book to be a Bible, instead it is a book filled with Biblical based devotionals specifically designed for young/preteen girls. The Bible texts that are included are from the International Children’s Bible; therefore they are easily understood. Bible stories and verses are used to help illustrate different qualities and truths that we desire our daughters to have. A couple of the sections focus on beauty (not only outside, but inside as well!), being a friends to others and understanding God’s love. This is a wonderful book for girls and a fun book for mothers and daughters to enjoy together!

Book Review - "100 Bible Stories 100 Bible Songs"

Stephen Elkins’ “100 bible Stories 100 Bible Songs” is a colorful, kid-friendly, padded cover book. Each story is kept to one page with the adjoining page displaying a coordinating picture. There is a song to go along with each story that is contained on one of the two cds that are included in this book. Many songs are familiar, such as “My God is so Big,” however there are also songs that may not be quite as familiar included as well, such as “Do to Others” and “Jesus in the Morning.” This is a great resource for tying in music with teaching Bible stories with children and the songs are ones that will be remembered over the years and enjoyable for the entire family! Just a side note, I had inserted the first cd into my computer to listen to and the playlist that was displayed did not match up with the songs, for example, on the playlist, the first song was listed as “The B-I-B-L-E” while the song playing was “In the Beginning” which is also the song listed in the book. So the right songs play, however the wrong titles are coordinated with the songs.

Review for "The American Patriot's Bible"

“The American Patriot’s Bible,” New King James version from Thomas Nelson, is a unique study Bible. When I saw this Bible, I was intrigued as to what all was contained in it in regards to American History. Each book begins with background information about the book, such as the author, date it was written, key verses and key chapters. Throughout the Bible, there are colorful pages inserted tying the Bible with our nation’s history. For example, placed in by Numbers 28 there is a section about the Bible and the American Presidents containing quotations from various presidents about the Bible. Information about the American Revolution is placed within 2 Chronicles while the Civil War is discussed in the midst of the book of Jeremiah. Filled with interesting facts and known historical information, as well as some not as familiar facts about America, this Bible is a great study Bible to strengthen one’s faith and realize the significance of the Bible and faith in our nation’s history.

Book Review - "Wishes for One More Day"

“Wishes for One More Day” written by Melanie Joy Pastor and published by Flashlight Press is a valuable addition to any counseling library and even recommended for one’s personal collection as well. Anna and Joey awake to the news that their beloved Poppy has passed away in the night. Both children are not given the opportunity to tell their Poppy good-bye. A list is created of things they wish they could do one more time with their Poppy and this list is created into a memory book highlighting the times they had spent with their Poppy. A wonderful story that celebrates the life of a loved grandparent and helping children to work through their grief by focusing on the happy memories that they can cherish for years to come. This book is highly recommended and an excellent resource to use with children who have recently lost a loved one.

Book Review - "The Noticer"

How often do we really think about how we impact others around us? Just a word, action, look, kind gesture to show we care can make a world a difference in another person’s life. Jones, the main character in Andy Andrews’ book “The Noticer” teaches the reader to take a moment and really observe and notice things around us. This book in the most uplifting book that I have read in a long time. Do not think that you do not have time to read this; it is a quick read and really is a book that should not be passed over. I sat down to read the first chapter and continued on until I was interrupted. Andrews pulls you into the story of Jones and his interactions with the people he meets. Jones provides people who are “down and out” and think they have no hope with some perspective and offers a glimpse of hope. It has made me think of Emerson Drive’s song, “Moments,” as there are times in life that we are feeling as if everything in our world is crashing down around us and there is no hope and then all it takes is that one person to provide a different perspective and offer a little glimmer of hope that helps us to get through that next moment. I really encourage each person to read this book, it is inspiring and can be life changing for you

Book Review - "Face of Betrayal"

“Face of Betrayal” by Lis Wiehl with April Henry is a fiction novel that pulls you even with the first sentence. There is a sense of suspense within the first couple of sentences that has the reader wondering what is really going with Katie and who she is meeting up with, especially with how her dog reacts. Throughout the book there are many relevant issues presented and discussed for today’s society including online predators, spousal abuse, friendship, online networking sites and infertility. “The Triple Threat” is what three friends with expertise in different areas call themselves as their experience and work allows them to make great strides with cracking cases as they are working on now with the disappearance of Katie. The suspense throughout the book keeps the reader turning the pages and the legal aspect and other subplots and current issues tied in holds the reader’s interest. I was happy to see that a sequel is already being worked on as this is a series that I am sure many will enjoy!
